Client: War Voices
War Voices was a collaborative project initiated by Iraq Veterans Against the War, Military Families Speak Out, Civilian Soldier Alliance, United for Peace & Justice, Veterans For Peace, and War Resisters League to commemorate the 10th anniversary since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan and the start of the Global War on Terror. To commemorate this sad anniversary, War Voices called for a month of local and national activities from September 7th to October 7th 2011, "Decade of War Awareness Month." The client needed something immediately recognizable, but avoided the typical war & peace metaphors (the peace sign, the dove, the helmet, the rifle). The logo also couldn't look too much like any one of the project's sponsoring groups.
For this logo I tried to capture the essence of the project: the overall bomb shape to evoke war, the face with an open mouth to represent the conversations the project aimed to start (and the human side of war), and the hand to indicate the project's desire to stop the ongoing war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
